The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word "chia" is probably "chia pets", the rage of the early 1980s. It's a green plant, from a low-grade chia seed, that grows and covers a chia clay pet like a bunny, ram, puppy, or frog. The green plant that grows and covers a chia pet comes from a low grade chia seed. But... did you know that there is a high "food grade" chia seed? Our chia seed is a harvested, unprocessed, nutty-tasting, nutrient-dense whole grain with omega-3 fatty acids that has among the highest antioxidant activity of any whole food, outdistancing even the freshest blueberries. The health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids are becoming widely known. What is not well known is that chia seed is the best source of omega-3. It is better than fish oil and better than flax seed. Chia seed is high in protein and high in calcium, with 5 times the calcium of milk, 631 mg per 100 grams of seed. Chia seed is also high in protein, with 18 grams per 100 grams of seed. Chia seed is rich in antioxidant oils. It contains chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid as well as myricetin, quercetin and kaempferol flavonols. These compounds are both primary and synergistic antioxidants and contribute in a major way to the strong antioxidant activity of chia. The optimum ratio of
omega-3 to omega-6 should be 3 to 1.
Omega-3 has been found to be helpful for the following health challenges:
Your body does not produce Omega-3.
It must be consumed in your diet. Chia
seeds like those contained in the Marquis Nutra Foods is the best source
of obtaining Omega-3.
